Am I the only one who…?

A bereaved pupil is feeling isolated or has isolated themselves from their friendship group. They may describe feeling ‘different’ from their peers or saying that no one understands how they feel.

Consider:

  • It can be difficult for a bereaved pupil to relate to their friends; they may feel that their peers are worrying about something trivial when grief is overwhelming their own life.
  • Bereaved pupils feel that they cannot ‘identify’ with others, they may think they are the only person who feels this way.

What might help:

  • Older pupils may find the Child Bereavement UK app useful as this was created by bereaved young people for bereaved young people.
  • Signposting the pupil and/or their family/carers to a bereavement support service may help them to find other bereaved children/young people.
